“But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,
bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.
Luke 6:27 (NRSV)
What does it mean to love your enemies, bless those who curse you, and give without expecting anything in return? In a world that often values self-preservation and payback, Jesus’ words in Luke 6:27-38 challenge us to a higher calling—a radical way of living marked by compassion, mercy, and boundless generosity. This Sunday, as we continue to look at the story of Jesus through the words of Luke, we will be exploring how these powerful commands can transform our relationships, renew our communities, and reflect the heart of God in our everyday lives.
The text is not an easy one. It pushes us out of our comfort zone. It flies in the face of “conventional wisdom.” It pushes us to enter into relationships with people we would just as soon avoid. We live in a time when it is all too easy to let ourselves be herded into communication “silos,” where we interact only with people who act like us, look like us and think like us. Jesus calls us to something different. Are you ready to discover the freedom and joy that come from living out the extraordinary love Jesus offers? Join me on Sunday and let’s explore together what that means!
Peace!
Pastor Terry
