“The truth is that this poor widow gave more to the collection
than all the others put together. All the others gave what they’ll never miss;
she gave extravagantly what she couldn’t afford—she gave her all.” (Mark 12:43, 44)
Reimagine. Jesus and his disciples were in the Temple across from the collection box. Jesus observed how the crowd tossed money in for the collection. Mark tells us that many of the rich were making large contributions, but one poor widow came up and put in two small coins—a measly two cents – all she had.
I love this story because it was not about the amount but rather about the heart. The others gave out of their abundance; she gave out of her scarcity. Their giving didn’t make a difference to their pocketbook; her giving was all she had. What if we were to give like the widow?
Reimagine for a moment what our money story would look like if we had the right heart posture. If we continually took the time to remember all the ways God has provided for us in the past and how God continues to provide for us daily. If we came before God with an open palm, releasing our grasp on the things that hold us back from trusting God with all things. If we aligned our heart with God’s, reimagining what God could do for us and through us when we completely trust God with all the things!
Reimagine a life of abundance, always trusting in God’s provision. Reimagine a life filled with gratitude rather than a focus on scarcity. Reimagine life with a heart for God.
This stewardship season, I invite you to remember, release, reimagine, and restore your money story so that together we can write the one God is begging us to live into.
Blessings,
Pastor Jenni
“I tell you the truth, this poor widow has given more than all the others who are making contributions. For they gave a tiny part of their surplus, but she, poor as she is, has given everything she had to live on.” Mark 12:43-44
