Remember that it is the Lord your God who gives you the power to become rich.
He does this because he is still faithful today to the covenant that he made with your ancestors.
Deut 8:18 (GNT)
Remember. Moses spoke that word over and over again as he addresses the Israelites as they were preparing to enter the promised land. “Remember how the Lord your God led you on this long journey through the desert these past forty years.” Remember how, “God gave you manna to eat, food that you and your ancestors had never eaten before. He did this to teach you that you must not depend on bread alone to sustain you, but on everything that the Lord says.”
How often do we remember all that God has done for us…big things, absolutely! Small things, not so much. I know there have been plenty of times in my life that God has provided for me that I don’t remember. Occasions where finances were tight and an unexpected check came in the mail. Or that day the cupboards were empty and a friend invited me over for dinner and sent me home with leftovers. God provides!
When it comes to God’s provision, we really do need to remember. When God provided the miraculous manna in the desert, he provided just enough. Not just once, but everyday for the entire time they were wondering in the desert…for Forty Years! It is hard to forget something like that, yet Moses commanded them “remember!”
The manna was a daily reminder of their daily dependence on God. God wanted to cultivate their daily dependence by providing for their needs on a daily basis. Centuries later, nothing has changed. God still provides for us and we need to not only be mindful of that but also to remember it! We need to be better about remembering!
This stewardship season, I invite you to remember, release, reimagine, and restore your money story so that together we can write the one God is begging us to live into.
Blessings,
Pastor Jenni
So the people of Israel did as they were told. Some gathered a lot, some only a little. But when they measured it out, everyone had just enough. Those who gathered a lot had nothing left over, and those who gathered only a little had enough. Each family had just what it needed.
(Exodus 16:17)
